FINDING FOUNDATION

 The Glory of God is a term many Christians have used without the conscious act of knowing what it means. Many scholars have said it is the volume of God, the presence of God, and the praiseworthiness of God. I agree with these definitions of glory but I think it is more than that. We use this term by saying “Glory to God” and “All creation proclaims God’s glory” (Ps. 19:1). Does our definition really meet the magnitude of its meaning? I agree with John Piper’s definition of glory, he says:

 

So here is an attempt at a definition. The glory of God is the infinite beauty and greatness of God’s manifold perfections. The infinite beauty—and I am focusing on the manifestation of his character and his worth and his attributes, all of his perfections and greatness are beautiful as they are seen and there are many of them. That is why I use the word manifold.

God’s glory is too beautiful, majestic, and incomprehensible. It is all the holy characteristics of God made known to us. The fact that God’s glory is something that is worthy to describe our God is something we should not take lightly. And our definition of glory should reflect our view of God.On the flip side of God’s glory, the noun Glory means “adoring praise or worshipfulthanksgiving”. To glorify someone is an act of submission. It is to say that they are higher and are worthy of all praise and honor. Glorifying God is the motivation of all creation. The act of giving God back everything He has given us. When we see our ability and size compared to the masterful, amazing, and beautiful God. We can see that we are meant to glorify and enjoy God. Matt Chandler says in his book Explicit Gospel:

 

God’s glory is what drives the universe; it is why everything exists.

Upward Glory is not special in any way, shape, or form. It is written by a normal follower of Christ. Who is in a struggle with sin just like the rest of us, but wants to write about a God who is more perfect, more loving, more graceful, more honorable, more merciful, more powerful, more gentle, more personal, more awesome, more faithful, and more forgiving. He is more than I asked for and more than I deserved. I write for the King of glory for His glory.At the end of every post I will have a call to worship, this means that no matter what topic is discussed in the post that they will all be linked together by this simple confession. This is meant to adjust our focus to Christ and proclaim that I am a representative of Christ. That my life and being will be to declare the matchless name of Christ, to declare His glory.
