In the past couple months, we have seen the horrible impact that fires, hurricanes, and humans can have on the land we all love. Headline after headline, there are people who have lost so much. As a consumer of this knowledge, I can get into the habit of thinking that these issues are so distant and have no impact on my life. Yet, the contrary is true. Lives stretch farther than you think. Hearts beat louder than you think. Therefore, we should pray. Pray louder than the weeping. Pray over the headlines. Pray and see that, on the other side of the screen, there are people who are hurting.
Pray with me:
Lord,
My mind, unlike yours, is limited to what my senses can perceive. I cannot imagine the magnitude of pain across this nation, but you can. I cannot understand why suffering exists, but you can. I cannot experience how much each person feels and their dreams, but you can. In this moment, I step back to say that in the midst of chaos your hand is still working. Where you are is where hope lies. Confusion is often my companion on this journey and fear likes to linger, but I see that your love remains. The cross of Jesus cannot be undone by the actions of man. It was for the sake of man that Jesus laid down his life. Fill us with the faithfulness that is found in the grace of Christ.
I pray for the leaders of the U.S. Place your wisdom in their minds and your love in their hearts. Help us understand that they are as human as the rest of us. They have pressure on them that we could only imagine. I pray that they would trust the burden-lifter when tough decisions arise. Let their hearts be molded by the example and humility of Jesus, the ultimate leader.
May the Lord bless this nation with grace and peace.
Amen
